Introduction

AP Malphite mid is one of my favorite things to play in this game. To be honest I thought he would be unplayable after the removal of DFG but honestly it just made him a more healthy champion. Previously, once AP Malph had DFG he could one shot anyone that wasn't a tank provided that he went even or ahead in lane. With the addition of Luden's Echo, AP Malphite still has some one shot pressure on ADCs and APCs if they build no magic resist which is oh so satisfying.

Runes

Runes are pretty basic. If you're playing draft or ranked you could go scaling AP blues against AD champs or Health yellows against AP champs but it's not a huge difference.

Masteries

AP Malphite's masteries want to do as much damage as possible. Your auto attacks don't mean much so no point in picking up things like the weaving masteries and arcane blade. I pick up butcher and feast because AP Malphite is seriously awful at CS.

Items

The most important item you can get with AP Malphite is Luden's Echo. On top of having the 120 AP and the burst from Luden's passive, you also get movement speed which helps position you for ultimates. I'd say Zhonya's is pretty important to get at some point even if you aren't facing an AD mid because if you have to initate a fight you want to hit all your damage buttons (R-E-Q) and then be able to Zhonya's so the enemy team doesn't blow you up after. Void staff and Abyssal are huge items because with a little bit of penetration, you can one shot most ADCs if they haven't built any MR yet.

Skill Sequence

Basically you level R whenever you can for obvious reasons, you max Q first for harass, E second for damage after your ult, I don't even put a point into W early on because it's a waste of mana and the passive on it can sometimes make you miss CS. Whenever you do level W the main use for it is to pop it before you ult so your E can do a little more damage.

Hi! My name is Phoenix but on League I'm known as MrPineLoL. Right now I'm a gold Warwick main but I play lots of other junglers too including Malphite.

Why Malphite?

At some point in time I was looking for a new champion for my champion pool. I felt like I was lacking a tank champion with a great engage.When thinking of the best engages in the game I immediately thought of Malphite's R (also other champs ofc like Sejuani but let's not talk about that). So with Malphite being a tank and with him having one of the best engages in the entire game, I added him to my line up.

Abilities

Passive: Granate Shield:
INNATE: Malphite shields himself for 10% maximum health, refreshing if he has not taken damage in the last 10 / 8 / 6 seconds.
Generally you want to wait for this to come back up before starting the next camp, it'll leave you with much more HP.

Q: Seismic Shard:
ACTIVE: Malphite sends a rock rolling to the target enemy, dealing magic damage to them upon impact, Slow icon slowing them for 4 seconds and gaining bonus movement speed equal to the amount the target is Slow icon slowed by.
Do not use this while farming the jungle! With a 70 mana cost at lvl 1 it's extremely inefficient. You should use this ability for the slow, so when ganking use this to get a slow off.
W: Brutal Strikes:
PASSIVE: Malphite gains bonus armor.
ACTIVE: For 6 seconds, Malphite's basic attacks deal bonus physical damage which splashes to enemies around his target.
On the other hand your W is really mana efficient and you should always use this to increase your clear speed. With the tiamat like effect it gives it's also great for camps like Krugs or Raptors.
E: Ground Slam:
ACTIVE: Malphite slams the ground, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies and Slow icon crippling them for 3 seconds.

Malphite's E is an auto attack reset, so always use the combo AA-E-AA. Overall this ability is also very mana efficient and you should use it whenever up in the jungle.

R: Unstoppable Force
ACTIVE: Malphite dashes to the target location, becoming immune to crowd control effects for the duration and, upon impact, dealing magic damage to all nearby enemies as well as Airborne icon knocking them up for 1.5 seconds.

This is why you should play Malphite. The AoE knock up can knock up an entire team from a long range, does a good amount of damage and additionally allows you to be where a tank would like to be: in their faces. It's a perfect set up for your E and W as well.
